Update of the Genealogy

We have now initiated the work on the next edition of the Genealogy. Invitation letters have been sent by e-mail to all the addresses we have, with information about how to access and update the family database. Below you can find answers to various questions about the book and the process.

What kind of book is this?
The Genealogy is a book with biographies of all decedents of Pierre la Cour who lived from 1716 to 1775. The first edition was published in 1903 and the latest in 2011. You can find some of the earlier editions in the Library on this site.

My last name is not la Cour – why have you written to me?
The book is for all descendants of Pierre above the age of 20, irrespective of whether they have retained the last name or not, so if you have received a letter, you descend from Pierre.

What are the family numbers?
The family numbers show your position in the birth order. 33 lines have established based on the ancestors of the 4th generation. After that children are given sequential numbers. The chairman’s number is 72-5112. That means that he is the 2nd child of the 1st child of the 1st child of the 5th child of number 72. You can see a list of all persons of the first four generations under the heading About the Family.

Where can I see what you have recorded about me?
It is set out in the letter you should have received – if we have your address. It includes a username/number and a code, so you can access and edit the information. The database information is automatically converted into book text, and this part – birthdate and place and parents – will automatically be in Danish.

How do I submit information to the book?
You do that by updating the information in the database. Here you can add information about yourself, your spouse/partner and your children.

I do not speak Danish!?!
It is fine that you write the text about you and your family in English. We will include it in the book as such.

What is the deadline for updating the database?
30 September 2019

I can’t open the database – what is wrong?
Unfortunately, the database uses an outdated IT-system called Flash and certain operating systems and firewalls prohibit access to Flash sites. For example the datbase cannot be cassesd from an iPhone or an iPad. If you can’t access, you can send us the information and pictures by e-mail to bog@pierrelacour.dk It is important that you include your family number in the e-mail. Your family number is indicated in the letter, you received, just below your name/address.

My parents are dead/not IT-proficient. Can I gain access to their information?
Yes, but then you should write to us at bog@pierrelacour.dk and provide your user number and code – then we will return that of your parents.

Can I send a picture by letter?
Preferably not. It is administratively complicated to scan and register (not to mention return) physical pictures. Take one with your mobile phone.

Should the pictures be in color or B/W?
The book will be in B/W so we will convert the pictures. Consequently dark pictures are not so good.

Can there be several persons on the same picture?
Preferably not. We prefer one person per picture since they are saved under personal profiles. They do, however, not have to be passport style pictures. Favorite places, toys or animals are welcome. They make the picture more fun to look at.

Can I say No Thanks to be included in the book?
Of course! When you log into your profile you can check off the box ”Ønsker ikke omtale” (Do not want to be mentioned). Then you will be listed as anonymous and we will not contact you again.

When and how can I buy the book?
We plan to release the book in the spring of 2020 and we will send information about price and ordering procedure to all the e-mail addresses we have.

Will the book be for sale in a bookstore?
No. The book will only be sold privately by the Asociation.

What should I write about myself?
Anything you want! Write about your education, your hobbies, exciting events, work or other topics which can be of interest to your children and grand children in 40-50 years. You should write in 3rd person: “He went to Kennedy High School from 1990-1998” and not “I went to Kennedy High School … ”. We will proofread the book before it is printed and retain the right to edit the text.

Will my e-mail address be included in the book?

No!
